From Summer to Fall: Experience Growth in Transition

The Magnetic Section, Haley C.

Of all the seasons, summer feels the most fleeting. One minute, you’re excited about longer days, BBQs, and pool parties. The next, back-to-school supplies are hitting store shelves, and pumpkins are popping up everywhere.

As summer comes to a close, consider how you can make the most of this seasonal transition.

Seize the Last Days of Summer

Although pumpkin spice season seems to start a little earlier each year, don’t be so quick to let go of summer.

Have you accomplished everything you hoped to this season? It’s not too late to finish your bucket list. Make each new day count.

Embrace Fall

We often spend so much time anticipating the future that we neglect to fully embrace our current season. Many people are motivated to accomplish more at the beginning of fall, in anticipation of the approaching holidays. However, it’s easy to taper off and become less productive as the festivities approach.

At a time when many people check out early, don’t rush through fall. As things wind down, take the time to learn a new skill or work on your own projects and finish the year well.

Reestablish Your Goals for the Year

Use this transition as a natural reset point. Take a few minutes to write down three things you would like to accomplish before the year’s end.

A landmark study by psychology professor Gail Matthews revealed that writing down your goals makes you even more likely to achieve them. It can feel intimidating to commit your hopes and dreams to paper, but taking that step will pay off.

Life is full of transitions, and you have the power to determine what each one means for you. What will you choose to do with the future that awaits you?
